People aged 16 to 96 can find volunteer opportunities with The Friends to match their schedule, interests, and skills. Members of The Friends can contribute a few hours every week, volunteer once a month, or be involved in events from time to time during the year. Our volunteer schedules are flexible and designed fit into a busy calendar.
The Friends of the Library has been named the "Best Volunteer Gig for indoorsy types" by Cincinnati Magazine.
A variety of volunteer opportunities are available:

Volunteers at our Warehouse in Hartwell are needed to:
- Sort, price and shelve books and other materials
- Send out membership mailings
Volunteers typically work at the Warehouse on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings.
The Friends’ Shop at the Main Library
The Friends’ Shop, located in the Main Library (800 Vine Street), has opportunities for volunteer sales associates. Sales associates:
- Assist shoppers
- Organize shelves
- Provide directions to areas within the library
Members of The Friends can commit to volunteering on a specific day or to substituting when needed. The Friends’ Shop is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm.
The Friends sponsors sales at a number of locations throughout the year, and you may volunteer to help at any or all of the sales. Volunteers are needed to:
- Help with set-up
- Neaten and replenish shelves and tables
- Assist shoppers as necessary
Individuals generally are needed to help on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday during a sale. Volunteers can work as many shifts as they wish. Let us know when and where you would like to help. Your time will be scheduled to accommodate your preference.
